Revitalization of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Pedestrian Path, Jakarta
Revitalization of the Pedestrian Path in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area is one of our strategic projects in welcoming the 2018 Asian Games by carrying out the concept of environmentally friendly materials. The project developed by the DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Agency was carried out by contractors PT Waskita Karya and PT Adhi Karya in the period August to November 2017. Covering an area of 44,000 m², this project became a historical record for us as the largest porous concrete construction in Indonesia.
As a major public area, the GBK area requires sidewalk and jogging path infrastructure that has maximum functionality without disrupting the water absorption system. The main challenge we faced was to provide a solution to reduce surface waterlogging and accelerate the process of water absorbing into the ground to maintain pedestrian comfort. Given the complexity of the materials and high technical requirements, we were required to have solid team management coordination to complete the project within a very short duration of only 3 months.
Solusi Bangun Beton through our subsidiary, PT Pendawa Lestari Perkasa, answered the challenge by presenting ThruCrete, an innovative porous concrete solution that pioneered the national construction market at that time. We optimized ThruCrete technical advantages to significantly accelerate the absorption of water into the ground, thus effectively reducing inundation without increasing the burden on the drainage system. Through precise operational management and a team of subject matter experts, we successfully completed the project on time and established it as a key benchmark in the implementation of green infrastructure in national public spaces.
